Wortley Cottage Guest House Access Statement

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our 200-year old, 5-bedroomed home. Originally a farmhouse and attached outbuildings, it was converted into a B & B  in the 1990's. It is of solid stone construction and still retains some quirky original features.

Arrival & car-parking facilities

The Guest House is situated in the centre of the village, next to the Post Office and opposite the church. It is an L-shaped building set slightly back from the road. Car parking is available in the marked bays on-street, 20 yards away.

There are 2 bus stops in the village, both within 100 yards of the Guest House. There are services to Sheffield (no 29), Barnsley and Penistone(no 23). They run every 2 hours on weekdays and Saturdays. There is a limited service to Sheffield only on a Sunday (no 29). The nearest main railway stations are Sheffield and Barnsley, and there is a local line to Chapeltown. The local pre-bookable Taxi service is run by Excel Taxis 0114 245 0000. Main entrance

From Park Avenue, cross the road as though you are going to the Post Office. There are 2 steps with a handrail. Walk past the entrance and follow the path round to the white door. This is the Guest House entrance. The front door is kept locked – please ring the doorbell on arrival. If there is no reply, please ask in the Post Office. There is a wide 6cm step, followed by higher 12cm step over the threshold. The door is 100cm wide and opens into a small hallway. To the right is the door into our office, the stairs are immediately in front of you and to the left (behind the door) is the dining room. The floor area and stairs are fully carpeted.

Breakfast room

Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. There is one small step of 2cm. There is one large dining table that comfortably caters for 6 people. The dining room is also available for take-away meals. Please note we do not allow take-away meals to be consumed in bedrooms. 

Public Areas

All our bedrooms are situated on the first floor and are accessed by a flight of 13 steps. There is a handrail on the right-hand side only. The top step is angled. A communal fridge is available for Guest use on the landing. The Guest area is fully carpeted throughout. We do not have a public lounge. Bedroom 2 is at the top of the stairs, Bedrooms 3 & 4 are opposite each other, 4 metres from the top of the stairs.

Bedroom 2 – Twin room, with en-suite shower room

Our largest room, containing 2 single beds (3' x 6'3") which can be linked to form a large double. A single sofa bed and cot/toddler bed are available in this room, by prior arrangement. Other furniture includes a bedside table and 2 table lamps, a chair, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Heating is by one thermostatically-controlled radiator in the bedroom and another in the en-suite. Facilities in the room include a flat-screen TV with remote, hairdryer, radio alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities. WIFI available, but mobile phone reception is poor in the room. Please note - the shower is accessed by a step up of 12cm.

Bedroom 3 - Double room, with en-suite shower room

Standard double bed (4'6" x 6'3"). 2 bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe and chair. Flat screen TV with remote, hairdryer, radio alarm clock, tea & coffee making facilities. WIFI available, but mobile phone reception poor in the room. Heating by a thermostatically-controlled radiator in the bedroom and one in the en-suite. Please note that the shower is accessed by a step-up of 12cm.

Bedroom 4 - Double room, with en-suite shower room

Standard double bed (4'6" x 6'3"). A toddler/cot bed can be put in this room by prior arrangement. Additional furniture includes a wardrobe, chest of drawers, chair, 2 bedside tables & lamps. Flat screen TV with remote, hairdryer, radio alarm clock and tea & coffee making facilities are also provided. There are ample sockets. WIFI is available, but mobile phone reception is poor in the room. Heating is by one thermostatically-controlled radiator in the room and one in the en-suite. Please note that the en-suite is internal, and therefore has an extract fan, and a macerator unit. The shower is accessed by a step-up of 12cm.
